Dr. Nichelle J. Wilson

Dr. Nichelle J. Wilson was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She moved out-of-state after high school and returned just a few years ago after being away over 20 years. She lived in Northern California for several years where she delved into the beautiful cultural mix. It was there she discovered an affinity for sound water kayaking, Polynesian dance, Egyptian dance, Asian cuisine, Ghirardelli Chocolate, See’s Candies, and natural hair (especially Sisterlocks).

As a child, her interest in American Sign Language (ASL) beamed from the desire to communicate directly with a family member who was diagnosed with hearing loss around age 3. It was heartbreaking to see his isolation from the family because they were unable to communicate with him effectively. He was sent to the state residential deaf school and learned ASL. In order to communicate with him, Dr. Wilson enrolled in an ASL course. Twenty-five years later, Dr. Wilson is immersed in interdisciplinary areas related to hearing loss as a doctor of audiology, national certified interpreter of the deaf, national certified instructor of Cued American English/Cued Speech, and an award-winning ASL instructor (ASL National Honor Society 2017).

Dr. Wilson obtained a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Gallaudet University is the only liberal arts university in the world that specializes in educating individuals who are deaf and people who want to work with individuals with hearing loss ( She has also been conferred an Associate of Arts (AA) degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Utah State University, Master of Education (MEd) degree from Regent University, and a Master of Science (MS) degree in Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences from Gallaudet University. She completed her doctoral externship at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, GA where she received rigorous and rewarding training.

Dr. Wilson is a licensed audiologist by the state of Georgia and carries the national Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), awarded by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). In addition, she is a member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, National Cued Speech Association, and a past member of Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society in Education).

Dr. Wilson enjoys working with children and adults to achieve their communication goals. She deems it a bountiful blessing and absolute pleasure to serve the needs of individuals with hearing loss and their loved ones.
